GSC Announces 2007-08 Winter All-Academic Team
West Alabama’s
Ashton Washington and Jessica Thompson have been named to the
2007-08 Gulf South Conference Winter All-Academic Team, released
by the conference office on Monday. This year’s honor marks the
second time that Washington and Thompson have been voted to the
academic squad.

University of West Alabama women’s basketball player Ashton
Washington received recognition from the Women’s Basketball
Coaches’ Association and State Farm, as she was named a
All-American Honorable Mention.

Tigers
Finish Season in GSC Tournament
The University of West Alabama women’s basketball
team had its season concluded on Thursday afternoon in the Gulf
South Conference Women’s Basketball Tournament, as the Tigers
fall to Arkansas Tech, 76-69, in the DeSoto Civic Center. UWA
finishes the season 13-15 on the year and 8-5 in GSC play.

Ashton Washington, from the University of West Alabama women’s
basketball team, was named to the 2008 All-Gulf South Conference
East Division First Team, as announced by the conference office
on Wednesday.

Tigers Claim 79-62
Senior Day Win
All four University of West Alabama women’s
basketball seniors scored in their final game at Pruitt Hall, as
the Tigers (13-14, 8-4 Gulf South Conference) defeated
Montevallo, 79-62, on Saturday afternoon. All 11 UWA players
scored in the contest, led by 19 points by Valerie Harris, who
also recorded a team-leading seven rebounds.

Tigers Host
Montevallo on Senior Day
The University of West Alabama women’s basketball
team closes out the regular-season on Saturday, March, 1 as the
Tigers (12-14, 7-4) Gulf South Conference) host in-state and
divisional rival Montevallo on Senior Night. Jessica Thompson,
Ashton Washington, Irimar Hernandez and Ayonna Procter will be
honored prior to tip-off, which is set for 5:30 p.m.

Tigers Hold Off West
Florida
Senior Jessica Thompson’s free throws with three
minutes remaining in the contest gave the University of West
Alabama women’s basketball team its first lead of the second
half and UWA nursed that lead in the final moments for a 73-71
comeback win over West Florida on Monday night on the UWF
campus.
