Cross Country To Compete In NCAA South Regional

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The University of West Alabama cross country teams will compete in the 2007 NCAA South Region Championship on Saturday, Nov. 3, in Huntsville, Ala.  The squads will be vying for a spot in the Division II National Championship field on Nov. 17th in Joplin, Mo.

The region event will get underway at 9 a.m. at the Sharon Johnson Park with the women’s 6K.  The men’s 10K will follow suit at 10 a.m. CST.  The top three teams from each region will earn a trip to the national meet, as well as the top two individuals from each race, not a part of a qualifying team.

The Tiger men are coming off a fifth-place finish at the 2007 Gulf South Conference Cross Country Championships two weeks ago.  UWA’s Austin Enriquez earned First Team All-Gulf South Conference honors with his ninth-place finish at the conference championship.  Jonathan Sellers claimed a spot on the All-GSC Second Team with his 17th-place finish.

On the women’s side, senior Amanda Fuentes was UWA’s top-finisher at the league championship with a mark of 21:14.21 in the 5K event and placed 35th in the individual standings.

Results from the event will be posted on www.NCAASports.com on Saturday afternoon.
