LIVINGSTON, Ala. —
The University of West Alabama cross country
teams will compete in the 2007 NCAA South Region
Championship on Saturday, Nov. 3, in Huntsville,
Ala. The squads will be vying for a spot in the
Division II National Championship field on Nov.
17th in Joplin, Mo.
The region event will get
underway at 9 a.m. at the Sharon Johnson Park
with the women’s 6K. The men’s 10K will follow
suit at 10 a.m. CST. The top three teams from
each region will earn a trip to the national
meet, as well as the top two individuals from
each race, not a part of a qualifying team.
The Tiger men are coming off
a fifth-place finish at the 2007 Gulf South
Conference Cross Country Championships two weeks
ago. UWA’s Austin Enriquez earned First Team
All-Gulf South Conference honors with his
ninth-place finish at the conference
championship. Jonathan Sellers claimed a spot
on the All-GSC Second Team with his 17th-place
finish.
On the women’s side, senior
Amanda Fuentes was UWA’s top-finisher at the
league championship with a mark of 21:14.21 in
the 5K event and placed 35th in the
individual standings.
