LIVINGSTON,
Ala. –
The
University of West Alabama women’s
basketball team held off the
University of North Alabama to earn
its 10th, consecutive
victory at home with a 75-65 win.
UWA
(12-3, 2-0 GSC) had five players in
double figures, led by 11 points
from Irimar Hernandez, Wennica
Foster and Jessica Thompson. Brandi
Humphrey and Kotreece Bender each
added 10 points.
UNA
(7-10, 0-2 GSC) posted four Lions in
double digits with Amber Rutherford
leading the way with 16 points.
Jameica York added 12 points,
Chelsey Malone tabbed in 11, as
Tandra Inmon supplied 10 points.
After
leading 39-27 at the intermission,
UWA opened on a 7-3 run to push the
Tiger lead out to 15 points on a
jumper from Humphrey with 17:05
remaining in the game.
UWA would
cut the Tiger deficit to four points
with an 11-0 run over the next three
and half minutes.
UWA would
break the scoreless drought on a
jumper from Shani Jones. The Tigers
would answer with an 11-2 run of
their own to push the lead back out
14 points with 7:04 remaining.
The Lions
would try to chip away the UWA lead,
but never got closer than eight
points the remainder of the way, as
the Tigers were able to ice the game
down from the free throw line and
earn head coach Amanda Marks her 199th
career win.
West
Alabama returns to action on
Tuesday, January 16th,
when the Tigers travel to West
Georgia. Tip-off is slated for 6:30
p.m. |
