JACKSONVILLE, Ala. —
Despite playing without
Ashton Washington who missed
Sunday’s exhibition game because of
a death in the family, the
University of West Alabama wrapped
up three games in six days with a
71-46 loss to Jacksonville State at
Pete Mathews Coliseum.
In two previous exhibition contests,
West Alabama fell to Alabama, 81-50,
on Tuesday and 76-50 to No. 9
Georgia on Thursday.
The Tigers got 13 points on 5 of 10
shooting from Shani Jones and six
points from Brandi Humphrey in the
loss.
Jacksonville State had a pair of
players score in double figures, led
by Ashley Boykin with 20 and
Courtney Slaughter with 18.
West Alabama kept the first half
close on 8 of 31 shooting and
trailed 28-23 at the break, but
Jacksonville State was 19-of-33 in
the second half and went on to
outscore the Tigers, 43-23. West
Alabama finished the game shooting
27.1 percent from the field
(16-of-59), while Jacksonville State
was 30-of-65 (64.2 percent).
The
Tigers open the season Friday, Nov.
17 in Arkadelphia, Ark. at the
Ouachita Baptist Basketball
Tournament against Ouachita Baptist.
