GREENEVILLE, Tenn. – The
University of West Alabama
volleyball team turned in an
unblemished, 3-0 record this
weekend at the Tusculum Fall
Classic, topping Augusta State,
3-1 on Saturday. The Tigers now
turn their focus to Gulf South
Conference play next weekend
with an overall record of 9-4.
The Red and
White claimed set one 26-24 but
dropped the second set to the
Jaguars 25-23. UWA took a 2-1
advantage after cruising past
ASU 25-13 in the third set and
clinched the match 27-25 in the
fourth set.
Junior Ana
Gabriela Pedrosa and senior
Allison Nail turned in
double-double performances in
the win. Pedrosa was credited
with 17 kills and ten digs while
Nail carded 14 kills and ten
digs. Junior Jordan Kent added
12 kills in the contest. Junior
Chanelle Esteban led all Tigers
in digs with 15. Freshman
Alexis McHale dished out 57
assists.
The Tigers
return home next Friday, Sept.
19, opening the GSC schedule
with Valdosta State. Match time
is set for 7 p.m. at Pruitt
Hall. The match opens a
season-long three-match
homestand. UWA will face
nationally ranked West Florida
next Saturday and closes out
with Montevallo on Tuesday,
Sept. 23.
