Tigers Host Cotton Blossoms In 2008 Home Lid Lifter

LIVE STATS

LIVINGSTON, Ala.  –After opening the 2008 season last weekend at the West Florida Comfort Inn-vitational, the University of West Alabama volleyball team will host the University of Arkansas at Monticello in the home debut for the Tigers.  The tilt between the two Gulf South Conference institutions is set for 5 p.m. at Pruitt Hall.

UWA posted a 2-2 mark down in Pensacola, Fla. last weekend, blanking North Carolina Pembroke and Ouachita Baptist on the first day and suffering setbacks to Florida Tech and St. Joseph’s (Ind.) on Saturday.  Junior Ana Gabriela Pedrosa paced the Red and White offensive attack, recording 59 kills in the four matches played in the season-opening weekend.  The Belo Horizonte, Brazil-native turned in double figure kills in all four matches and tallied double-doubles against OBU and SJC.  Senior Allison Nail also registered double figure kill totals in all four matches.  Jessica Crook, who suffered an injury against Florida Tech, carded 36 kills in the three matches played.  The Ohatchee, Ala. junior was named to the UWF Comfort Inn-vitational All-Tournament Team.

Thursday’s home opener will be the first of five matches played over a 72-hour span.  The Tigers will trek to Huntsville, Ala. on Friday to take part in the Alabama in Huntsville Invitational.  UWA will face the University of Puerto Rico Rio Piedras and Christian Brothers University on the opening day.  Saturday’s schedule includes Francis Marion at 9 a.m. and Harding at 1 p.m.

The Cotton Blossoms enter the contest with a 4-1 mark, having won on Tuesday night in Monticello against Wiley College.  UAM won two matches last weekend in Florence, S.C.

The UWA-UAM affair will be the first athletic contest on the newly renovated Pruitt Hall floor.  The new hardwood features the extra large scripting of “TIGERS” at the midcourt area along with red baselines and boundaries.  The floor was designed and will be installed by AGF Incorporated of Birmingham, Ala.

The home lid lifter will be available on UWA’s athletic web site – athletics.uwa.edu for live stats.  The University of West Alabama fans are reminded that live video and audio streaming of Tiger football, volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball will be available this year on B2 Networks.

Fans wanting to watch Tiger athletics via B2 Networks will need a high-speed Internet connection and a current version of Microsoft Windows Media Player.
