LIVINGSTON,
Ala. — For the second straight week, a
member of the University of West Alabama volleyball team
has earned Gulf South Conference Eastern Division
Player of the Week honors. Junior Jacquie Swan was
named the division’s Defensive Player of the Week by the
conference office on Tuesday.
Swan keyed the Tigers this past
weekend at the Carson Newman Labor Day Tournament,
extending UWA’s season-opening win streak to eight games
– a program all-time best. Swan registered 77 digs on
the weekend, posting a lofty 5.92 average. The Mobile,
Ala.-native had 33 digs, one shy of her career best, in
closing out the tournament with a 3-1 win over Augusta
State. She averaged eight digs per game in two matches.
It marks the second time Swan has
garnered one of the weekly conference awards. Last
season, she was named the defensive player of the week
(Oct. 24) after her performance against Albany State.
Swan’s teammate Allison Nail earned
the GSC Eastern Division’s Offensive Player of the Week
in the opening week of the season. The Red and White
open the 2007 hone slate against in-state foe Spring
Hill on Wednesday, Sept. 5 in Pruitt Hall on the UWA
campus. Match time is slated for 7 p.m. and admission
is free to all home volleyball matches. |
