BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – For
the second consecutive week,
West Alabama’s Ana Gabriela
Pedrosa has been tabbed as the
Gulf South Conference East
Division Offensive Player of the
Week, announced by the league
office on Tuesday.
Pedrosa accounted for 63 of
UWA’s 208 kills last week, as
the Tigers put together four
wins during the week. After
dropping the opening match of
the Carolina Challenge in Banner
Elk, N.C. to Flagler College,
the Red and White responded with
three-straight 3-0 sweeps over
region foes – Tusculum, Lincoln
Memorial and Carson Newman.
Earlier in the week, UWA
trounced Stillman in Tuscaloosa,
Ala. Pedrosa registered double
digit kill performances,
including a pair of 16 kill
outing against Flagler and
Carson Newman. The Belo
Horizonte, Brazil-native was
credited with her fourth
double-double of the season
against Lincoln Memorial (10
kills, 10 digs). She also
closed out the week with eight
total blocks.
The weekly award marks the
fourth time in her career to be
honored by the conference office
and second-consecutive season in
which Pedrosa has claimed
multiple week accolades.
The Tigers
return to the court on Tuesday,
travelling to Jackson, Miss. to
face NCAA Division I opponent
Jackson State University. First
serve is set for 7 p.m. tonight.
