No. 25 Tigers Fall To West Florida 3-1

LIVINGSTON, Ala. —The No. 25 University of West Alabama volleyball team suffered its first loss of the season to West Florida 3-1 on Friday night in front of 731 at Pruitt Hall.

The match was tabbed as the Gulf South Conference Match of the Week and it held up to its billing.  UWA, riding an 18-match winning streak came out of the gates to claim the opening game 30-25.  The Argonauts rebounded from the opening setback to even the match at one game apiece with a 30-24 victory.  The momentum continued to favor the visitors from Pensacola, Fla. in the pivotal third game as they topped the Red and White 30-25.  The finale was a back and fourth affair with both teams battling tooth and nail for the advantage.  The Tigers looked to close out game four with a 29-27 lead, but UWF claimed the final four points to win the match and stay undefeated in GSC Eastern Division play.

The Tigers (18-1, 4-1 GSC) finished with three players in double figures in the kill column.  Sophomore Ana Gabriela Pedrosa led the UWA charge with 18 kills.  Junior Allison Nail registered 15 kills in the contest.  Jessica Crook added 12 in the setback.  Guiliana De Francesco posted a double-double with 49 assists and recording 15 digs.

UWF (20-2, 5-0 GSC) was led by Isabela Gualberto, who carded a match-high 19 kills.  Luciana Rapach and Kimberly Clark posted 18 and 16 kills respectively.

The Red and White will host Valdosta State on Saturday in a match slated to begin at 1 p.m. at Pruitt Hall on the UWA campus.
