Ga. — The
University of West Alabama
volleyball team had a very hard time
putting anything together Saturday
night as Valdosta State swept the
Tigers, 3-0, in a Gulf South
Conference match at the P.E.
Complex.
Valdosta State hit over .400 in each
of the first two games in defeating
West Alabama with game scores of
30-18, 30-13, 30-18.
The Blazers (9-12 overall, 3-3 GSC)
hit .448 in the first game as they
never trailed in defeating the Lady
Tigers (4-16, 1-4) 30-18. UWA hit
-.059 in the game and was at -.081
in game two, in which VSU hit .433
en route to a 30-13 lead. Valdosta
State closed out the match with a
30-18 victory in game three, hitting
.333 while allowing West Alabama to
hit .075.
The Tigers were led by sophomores
Teresa Clements with nine kills and
Allison Nail with eight. Freshman
setter Giuliana De Francesco
registered 20 assists and eight
digs.
For the match, the Blazers hit .404
and limited UWA to a -.018 hitting
percentage. The Blazers tallied 16
blocks in the match, behind a solo
block and seven assisted blocks by
senior Grace George and eight
assisted blocks by junior Nancy
Marin.
Marin also had 10 kills in the match
and hit .588 with no errors in 17
attack attempts. Laura Lee Atkinson
tallied her 12th
double-double of the year with 11
kills and 11 digs while Niki
Patriarca registered 32 assists.
West Alabama continues conference
play as it visits North Alabama on
