FLORENCE, Ala. – The
University of West Alabama
volleyball team dropped a 3-0
decision to the University of
North Alabama on Tuesday night
at Flowers Hall on the UNA
campus.
The Lions claimed games one and
two 30-21 and 30-28 to take a
commanding lead in the match.
The Tigers led 22-14 at one
point in the second game, but
could not stave off a UNA rally
in which it outscored UWA 16-6
to claim the win. The Lions
finished off the match with a
30-28 win to clinch their
seventh conference win. UWA
held the lead up until UNA
knotted the game at 20 apiece.
The Purple and Gold ran off five
straight points to 25-20, but
the Tigers fought their way back
into the game and regain the
lead at 26-25, but the valiant
effort by the Red and White fell
short, dropping the third game
30-28. The two teams split the
season matches with UWA notching
a win over the Lions at Pruitt
Hall in September.
Junior Allison Nail posted a
match-high 14 kills and was
credited with three blocks.
Senior Rafaella Maranhao
finished with eight kills along
with a team-best 14 digs.
Sophomore Ana Gabriela Pedrosa
added seven kills in the
setback. UNA was led by Whitney
Sanders and Danielle Palasak
with eight kills each. Jessica
Hansen registered a match-high
15 digs.
The Red and White return to
action at home against UAH on
Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. at
Pruitt Hall. The Tigers will be
vying for a GSC Tournament berth
against the Lady Chargers. With
Montevallo’s loss to UAH on
Tuesday, UWA’s magic number to
earn a spot in the eight-team
field is one.
