LIVINGSTON, Ala. —
It took just three matches for
University of West Alabama head
volleyball coach Ron Arenz to get
his first Gulf South Conference
victory as the Tigers knocked off
UAH, 3-1, during Family Day Saturday
at Pruitt Hall.
West Alabama (4-11 overall, 1-2 GSC)
took a 2-0 lead into the third game
on scores of 30-23, 30-24 and had
the Chargers on the ropes with
double-match point at 29-27, but
couldn’t put away UAH, as the
Chargers forced a fourth game with
the score of 29-31. The Tigers
cruised to the win with a score of
30-21 in the fourth game.
Freshman Giuliana De Francesco paced
the Tigers with 56 assists, while
sophomore Allison Nail had 18 kills.
Sophomore Teresa Clements and senior
Elizabeth Colley finished with 14
and 13 kills, respectively.
Sophomore Jacqui Swan led the Tigers
with 25 digs, as Francesco had 17
and both Clements and Nail had 15.
Junior Taylor Borunda added 11 digs
as the Tigers snapped a three-match
losing skid.
Jessica Huckabee led the Chargers
(4-10, 1-2) with 26 assists, while
Yuki Kurihara added 14. Kelly Ingram
had 13 kills, while Kristen Wengert
and Kim Beesley each add 11.
The Tigers look to make it two
straight with a 7:00 p.m. home match
Tuesday, September 19 at Pruitt
