MAGNOLIA Ark. — The
University of West Alabama
volleyball team split matches
against Southern Arkansas this past
weekend, losing 3-1 on Friday night
to the Muleriders, but picking up a
3-0 victory Saturday.
On Friday, the
Tigers (8-19) dropped the opening
game, 30-27, but battled back with a
30-27 win in the second. However,
Southern Arkansas (9-13) took the
match with scores of 30-24, 30-15.
Sophomore
Allison Nail paced the West Alabama
offense with 16 kills and 17 digs,
while hitting .234. Freshman Jessica
Crook had 12 kills and six total
blocks. Freshman Giuliana De
Francesco added 34 assists and 15
digs, while sophomore Jacquie Swan
and junior Taylor Borunda had 14 and
11 digs, respectively.
Shelly Jones
led the Muleriders with 16 kills and
19 digs, while Brandi Beeson added
15 kills. Mallory McKee and Kayli
Kerr finished with 22 and 15 digs,
respectively.
Saturday, West
Alabama took the opening game, 30-27
and didn’t look back in taking the
match with scores of 30-28, 30-20 in
getting its eighth victory of the
season.
The Tigers had
59 kills to 22 errors, while
Southern Arkansas had 43 kills and
17 errors.
Sophomore
Teresa Clements paced West Alabama
with 15 kills and nine digs, while
hitting .333. Senior Elizabeth
Colley added 14 kills and four total
blocks, hitting .440 and Nail
finished with 11 kills, seven digs
and two blocks, while hitting .304.
De Francesco had 49 assists and nine
digs, while Swan and sophomore Nici
Steckel finished with 24 and 12
digs, respectively.
Jones and
Beeson had 10 kills each, while
Andrea Spradlin added 24 assists.
The Tigers
return to action Tuesday, October 16
in Huntsville, Ala., to face UAH,
beginning at 7:00 p.m. |
