HUNTSVILLE, Ala. — The
University of West Alabama
volleyball team looked to extend a
two-match winning streak Friday
afternoon at the UAH-Country Inn
Suites Volleyball Tournament, but
dropped the opening match to
Arkansas Tech, 3-1, and lost the
second match, 3-0, to Harding.
The Tigers
(2-8) couldn't get much going
against Arkansas Tech in the opener,
losing 16-30, 13-30, 15-30. Freshman
Giuliana De Francesco led West
Alabama with 23 assists, while
sophomore Allison Nail had a
team-high six kills. The biggest
difference in the contest was
kills/errors. Arkansas Tech had 47
kills to just five errors, while the
Tigers had 26 kills and 26 errors.
Rachel Urquhart
led Arkansas Tech with 13 kills,
while Dana Florian had 10. Kayla
Allison finished with 34 assists.
West Alabama
started strong against Harding in
the second match, but lost to the
Bisons, 21-30, 11-30, 14-30.
Francesco had 20 assists, while
sophomore Teresa Clements had a
team-high nine kills. Again the
story of the match was in
kills/errors, as Harding had 43
kills and 10 errors and West Alabama
finished with 25 kills and 26
errors.
Katie
Westmoreland and Katelin Parks paced
Harding (6-3) with 12 and 11 kills,
respectively, while Leah Tepe had 38
assists.
The Tigers
continue play in the UAH-Country Inn
Suites Volleyball Tournament
Saturday with a 9:00 a.m. match
against Christian Brothers and a
1:00 p.m. match against Henderson
State. |
