LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama’s Nicole
Shanahan has earned 2008 Tennis All-Gulf
South Conference East Division First Team
honors, announced by the league office in
Birmingham, Ala. on Friday.
The
Wodonga, Australia-native turned in a 13-7
record in singles play and teamed up with
Brittany Williams for an 11-8 worksheet in
doubles. Shanahan played the No. 1 position
for the Tigers this season. She won nine of
her 13 singles matches in straight sets.
The
Gulf South Conference also announced the
brackets for both the men’s and women’s
tennis championships this weekend in
Montgomery, Ala. Both UWA squads earned
berths into the post season event. The men
will take on the top-seed from the GSC West
Ouachita Baptist at 11 a.m. at the O’Connor
Tennis Center. The Tiger women will tangle
with Delta State at 11 a.m. at Lagoon Park.
The
tournament continues Saturday afternoon with
the semifinal matches at 2 p.m. and 4:30
p.m. The GSC Championship is slated for
Noon on Sunday.
