LIVINGSTON, Ala. —The
University of West Alabama women netters
picked up a 5-4 win over Gulf South
Conference foe Arkansas Tech at the Howard
R. Vaughn Tennis Complex as part of Super
Tiger Day activities. The win pushes UWA’s
season mark to 7-1 on the season, including
seven straight for the Tiger women.
In doubles action, Tech
claimed two of the three matches with the
Red and White tandem of Nicole Shannahan and
Brittany Williams topping ATU’s pair of
Whitney Simmons and Kristen Brown at the No.
2 position. The Tiger duo moved to 3-0 on
the season with the win.
UWA one at courts 1-4 in
singles action, with No. 1 and No. 2 courts
going to a third set. Shannahan dropped the
first set to Tech’s Anna Carson at the No. 1
position, but battled back to turn back
Carson 6-4, 6-4 in straight sets. UWA’s
Mariana Freitjas ousted Tech’s Saki Matsuoka
6-3, 3-6, 6-4. Chenge Tsapayi and Brittany
Willliams finished off the win with straight
set wins.
The Tigers jump into GSC
action on Sunday, March 2, traveling to
in-state foe Alabama in Huntsville. Match
time is set for 2 p.m. on the UAH campus.
