Tigers Fall At UNA To Close Out Regular Season

FLORENCE, Ala. – Both University of West Alabama tennis teams dropped the regular season finale, falling to Gulf South Conference rival North Alabama on Thursday.  The Tiger men suffered a 6-3 setback while the UWA women fell 8-1 to UNA.  The UWA netters will now compete in the GSC Tennis Championships that will be contested this weekend in Montgomery, Ala.

In the men’s match, UWA picked up a pair of wins in singles and claimed one point in doubles competition.  At No. 2, Carlin Tighe turned back UNA’s Zac Bereznicki 7-5, 6-1.  UWA’s Lucas Nunez blanked Phil Collins of UNA, 6-0, 6-0.  The Tiger duo of Tighe and Brandon Harris topped the Lion’s duo of Collins and Martin Siejka, 8-2.

UWA’s lone point in the women’s contest came from Chenge Tsapayi on court three.  Tsapayi won the first set 6-4 over UNA’s Mallory Waites but fell 7-5 in the second set to force a tie-breaker set, which Tsapayi claimed 10-4.

The 2008 edition of the GSC Tennis Championships will get underway on Saturday, April 19, at Lagoon Park.
