Bill Johnson
Football
(1963-1966)

Bill Johnson, a native of Eutaw, Ala., played football for West Alabama from 1963-66. As a senior, Johnson was the number three punter in the nation with a 44.1 yard average per punt, while catching 49 passes for 973 yards and 12 touchdowns and being named Little All-American. Johnson spent seven seasons in the NFL with the Denver Broncos, New York Giants and the Atlanta Falcons. He also played one year in the World Football League in Orlando, Fla.

 


Teddy Saenz
Football and Baseball
(1972-1976)

Teddy Saenz, a native of McAllen, Tex., played both football and baseball at West Alabama from 1972-76. As an offensive guard, Saenz led the Tigers to a third-place finish in NCAA Division II, was on the 1975 All-GSC Football Team and was a two-time All-American. As a first baseman, Saenz led the Tigers to a fourth-place finish in the 1976 NCAA Division II World Series, was named to the All-GSC Baseball Teams in 1974, 75 and 76, and was an All-South Region Pick. He was an assistant coach in both football and baseball at West Alabama for two years and also coached in the prep ranks in Georgia and Texas.
