LIVINGSTON, Ala.
– For the second straight week, a University of
West Alabama pitcher has been awarded the Gulf South
Conference East Division Pitcher of the Week award.
Junior Emily White earned the award for her efforts in
the final week of the regular season.
White, a native of
Ragland, Ala., pitched four scoreless innings against
North Alabama on Saturday, allowing just two Lion hits
in the outing. White pitched her way out of two
bases-loaded situations in the UNA contest. Against the
Lions, she was credited with six ground ball outs and
fanned two in her four innings of work. Offensively,
she led all Tigers at the dish against UNA, recording
two hits, including a double in the affair.
In UWA’s 6-5 upset
win of 2nd-ranked Alabama in Huntsville,
White turned in a five inning performance and allowed
three runs in the come-from behind win. White also
registered a hit against UAH. For the week, White
posted a team-best .364 batting average along with two
extra base hits. She had a double against UNA and home
run in the first game with Birmingham Southern.
Junior Brittany McGee won the
previous conference hurler award a week ago. Valisha
Fincher claimed the GSC East Player of the Week earlier
in the season. The Tigers wrapped up the 2008 campaign
with a 29-29 overall record, the most wins in a season
since the 1997 season. |
