LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – The University of West Alabama and
West Georgia will have to wait yet another day
to play its softball doubleheader, as Friday’s
scheduled twinbill between the Tigers and Wolves
in Carrollton, Ga. has been moved to Saturday,
April 11, due to a rainy forecast on Friday.
First pitch is set for 1 p.m. CST.
UWA and UWG
were scheduled to face off in Livingston, Ala.
on March 13, but rain forced the postponement.
UWA will host UWG on Thursday, April 16.
The Tigers
(37-8) are coming off a 6-1 mark at the annual
Gulf South Conference Crossover in Decatur, Ala.
this past weekend along with a rout of Stillman
College on Tuesday. UWG enters the Easter
weekend affair with a 27-18 overall mark. Both
teams are tied for fourth in the GSC East
standings with 9-6 marks. Live stats will not
be available on Saturday.
UWA reached
a couple of milestones against Stillman, as the
Red and White blasted nine home runs in the
doubleheader, to match the single season record
for home runs in a season. The Tigers have
belted 63 home runs on the season, tying the
2007 club. With UWA’s 13-0 win over SC, skipper
Will Atkinson reached the 200-win plateau in his
eighth season as a head coach.
Sophomore
Kelli Hartley leads the squad at the dish with a
.407 batting average and ranks fourth in the GSC
in hits with 57 and third in the league in RBIs
with 56. Hartley leads the conference in
doubles with 15. In the last nine games, senior
catcher Ashley Edgar has accumulated a .517 mark
at the plate in the lead off spot. Edgar is
currently riding a 14-game hitting streak that
dates back to March 24. The Roseville,
Calif.-native turned in three home runs and has
driven in eight runs during the nine-game span.
In the circle, the duo of Brittany McGee and
Aubree Hudson has combined for 26 wins on the
season. McGee paces the staff with a 1.32
earned run average, including three complete
games. Hudson has 32 appearances in the circle
and 78 strikeouts in 100 1/3 innings tossed.
Following
the GSC tilt with UWG, UWA will step out of
conference play, traveling to region foe
Tuskegee University on Tuesday, April 14.
