LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – A pair of West Florida runs in the
top of the fifth proved to be the difference in
a rain-shortened contest, as the University of
West Alabama softball team dropped a 4-2
decision on Sunday at the UWA Softball Complex.
A second band of heavy showers washed out the
second contest.
Play was
halted for an hour and 12 minutes in the top of
the fifth with the bases full of Argos. When
play resumed, UWF’s Sarah Garcia drew a walk,
forcing in Jillian LaFrance. The Argos added an
insurance run after an RBI single up the middle
by Kat Pursell.
UWA (39-13,
11-11 GSC) dented the scoreboard in the opening
frame, as Kelli Hartley corked a two-run home
run to left field off of UWF hurler LeFrance.
After the Hartley round tripper, LaFrance
allowed just one Tiger hit the rest of the way.
Senior Courtney Gordon laced a single to right
to start the second. LaFrance set down the next
15 UWA batters. UWF (40-13, 15-9 GSC) knotted
the game at 2-2 in its second at bat with a pair
of runs off just one hit.
UWA’s
Brittany McGee (14-5) was saddled with the loss
after coming in relief of starter Aubree
Hudson. Hudson tossed the first two innings and
was touched for three hits and two runs along
with four free passes.
The Tigers
close out the non-conference schedule on
Tuesday, April 21, against Judson College in
Marion, Ala. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. UWA
return to Gulf South Conference activity next
weekend at UAH and North Alabama.
