On the day, the Tigers pounded out 32 hits, led by senior catcher Ashley Edgar and senior third baseman Laura Bagwell, both posted five hits each on the day.  Bagwell drove in six runs, including a pair of doubles to open the season.  Sophomore Kelli Hartley connected on her first home run on the season in the first inning of game two with SHC, driving in three runs to spark UWA’s offensive attack.

In the morning session, the Red and White jumped out to a 5-0 lead over the Badgers of SHC, posting runs in the first two frames.  SHC’s bats came alive in the third, producing five runs in the frame to even the contest.  UWA scratched the go-ahead run in the fourth on Jessica Powell’s single to right center, scoring Edgar.  UWA senior pitcher Emily White came in relief, throwing a pair of scoreless innings to pick up the win.  Junior college transfer Jessica Cervantes notched her first save in the contest.  Head coach Will Atkinson gave senior Aubree Hudson the nod in the 2009 lid lifter.

In game two with the Purple and Black-clad Badgers, UWA sophomore Kelli Hartley connected on her first home run on the season in the first inning, driving in three runs to spark UWA’s offensive attack.  Hartley compiled six RBIs on the day.  Senior pitcher Brittany McGee turned in a complete game.  The Demopolis, Ala.-native kept the Badgers off balance the affair, allowing just two hits in outing.  The Tigers exploded for six runs in the bottom of the sixth, as they batted through the order.  Senior shortstop opened the frame with a single and scored on an Angela Smith base hit.  The Columbus, Miss.-product also turned in a double in the inning, driving in the final two runs.

Against Judson College, the Tigers carded a six spot in the bottom of the third to take a commanding lead against the Eagles and cruise to their third win of the day.  UWA’s Edgar drove in Smith and Lillard with a single to get the scoring started in the inning.  After a two outs in the frame, Gordon belted a double, scoring Hartley and Powell.  UWA put together back-to-back three-run frames to seal the win.  The Eagles put a pair of runs on the board in the fourth inning.  Hudson recorded the win after tossing four complete innings and allowing just two JC hits.
