LIVINGSTON,
Ala. – The
University of West Alabama
will open the Gulf South Conference home slate
on Sunday, March 29, hosting in-state rival
North Alabama. First pitch is set for 2
p.m. at the UWA Softball Complex.
The Tigers
got back on track this past Tuesday with a
dominating performance at region foe Stillman
College. UWA combined for 35 runs and pounded
out 33 hits as it cruised to an 18-0 and 17-2
sweep of SC. The Red and White entered the
mid-week twinbill having dropped its last three
contests.
UWA
sophomore Kelli Hartley continues to sizzle at
the plate, sporting a team-best .426 batting
clip. Hartley has registered 43 hits on the
season, 23 for extra bases. She also leads the
Gulf South Conference in doubles with 13. The
Northport, Ala.-product has driven in 46 runs on
the season along with eight home runs on the
season. Dating back to the Lambuth series on
March 9, junior outfielder Lauren Mills has
turned in a .559 (19-34) average at the dish.
As a team, UWA ranks second in the GSC
offensively with a team mark of .354. Entering
the second weekend of GSC play, the Tiger
pitching staff has allowed 64 earned runs this
season and opposing batters are hitting just
.239.
The Tigers
welcome No. 2 UAH to Livingston on Monday, March
30. Game time is set for 3 p.m.
UWA looks
to snap a 20-game losing skid to the Purple and
Gold Lions of UNA. The last time the Tigers
claimed a win over their in-state nemesis was
during the 2002 season. The UNA series dates
back to the first season of softball on the
Livingston campus, 1986. The last time the
highly-touted Chargers of UAH visited the UWA
Softball Complex, the Tigers came from behind to
down No. 2 UAH, 6-5. The second game of the
double dip was washed out.
