Against the Jaguars of ASU, the
Red and White used the home run ball, scoring all
four runs off of the long ball. Junior catcher and
current Gulf South Conference Player of the Week,
Ashley Edgar powered a two-run homer to left field
in the third inning. Sophomore Angela Smith started
the frame with a double to right center. Sophomore
second baseman Kelli Hartley opened the fourth with
a solo shot to left. In her next at bat, the
Northport, Ala.-product drilled her second dinger of
the contest in the sixth to close out the Tiger
scoring.
In the circle, UWA starter
Emily White (3-0) kept ASU at bay, allowing just two
hits in her four innings of work. Both Jaguar hits
came in the third frame against White. She fanned
three and gave up one walk. Junior Jessica
Cervantes finished the final three frames to earn
the save.
In the morning match up with
Columbus State, The Tigers dug themselves a hole
after the Cougars plated runs in three-straight
innings to take a 5-0 lead over UWA after four
innings. CSU closed out the Red and White with a
six-run sixth to take the win. CSU starter Ginny
Walsh scattered seven UWA hits in her five innings
of work. Edgar and Hartley turned in multi-hit
performances at the plate with a pair of hits,
including a double for each. UWA starter Brittany
McGee took the loss in the setback.
UWA closes out
the UAH-hosted event on Sunday, Feb. 22, taking on
the University of Missouri at St. Louis (3-7) at 9
a.m. followed by a 1:30 p.m. contest against
Kentucky Wesleyan (1-3). Updates from the UAH
