LIVINGSTON, Ala.
– The University of West
Alabama softball team will put its 5-0 mark on the line
this weekend, participating in the annual UAH Chillout
on Feb. 20-22 in Decatur, Ala.
UWA will open the three-day, six-game
event on Friday, Feb. 20, against the University of
Southern Indiana (0-6) at 10 a.m. followed by a Noon
contest with Northern Kentucky (0-0). Saturday’s
activity includes a match up with a pair of Peach Belt
Conference foes – Columbus State (5-8) at 10 a.m. before
taking on Augusta State (7-3) in the 2:30 p.m. time
slot. On Sunday, the Tigers close out the weekend
against the University of Missouri at St. Louis (3-3) at
9 a.m. and a 1:30 p.m. affair with Kentucky Wesleyan
(0-0).
The Tigers, who are off to their best
start since the 1991 campaign, pushed their unblemished
record to 5-0 on Tuesday with a doubleheader sweep of
in-state foe Miles College in Fairfield, Ala. UWA took
game one 6-1 before routing MC 14-2 in the nightcap. The
Red and White offense was sparked by the long ball in
the sweep with six home runs combined in the sweep.
Sophomore left fielder Valisha Fincher powered three
round trippers against the Golden Bears, including a
pair of dingers in the second game. She enters the
weekend activity with a sizzling .500 batting average
(7-14). As a team, UWA is averaging 10.4 hits per
contest and scoring 9.8 runs per game.
UWA is in a midst of a 19-game road
swing away from the friendly confines of the UWA
Softball Complex. After the six games at Decatur’s
Wilson-Morgan Park, the Tigers will travel to Jackson,
Tenn. on Feb. 27-28 to square off with Missouri Baptist
and Lambuth University.
