LIVINGSTON, Ala.
— West Alabama erupted for nine runs in the fourth
inning en route to an 11-2 win over Miles College on
Tuesday at the UWA Softball Complex. The second game of
the doubleheader was called due to rain in the
Livingston area. A make up date will be announced at a
later time.
Junior Laura
Bagwell broke a 2-2 deadlock with a bases-clearing
triple to plate the first three of the nine in the
inning. Freshmen Kassadie Jones and Angela Smith
connected on singles with a walk by Miranda Bryan
sandwiched between the two singles before Bagwell laced
a triple down the first base line to key the Tigers
offensive charge in the fourth frame. Shortstop
Courtney Gordon added an RBI in the inning while Smith
knocked in two Tigers in her second at-bat in the inning
with a single and an error by the centerfielder. UWA
took advantage of a three Miles miscues and a hit
batsman.
The Golden Bears
took the early lead in the contest, plating two runs in
the opening frame. Kenyona Johnson, who led off the
inning with a walk, scored on LaSkeka Williams single to
right field. Williams crossed the plate after Abbey
Copeland singled into centerfield. The Red and White
responded with two runs in the bottom frame. Catcher
Ashley Edgar and second baseman Kelli Hartley got things
started with back-to-back walks. Pitcher Emily
White
advanced them on a single to right field to load the
bases. Edgar scored on a MC wild pitch while Gordon
plated the game-tying run on a hit to left field.
UWA starter Emily
White notched her second win of the season with a
four-inning, five hit performance in the circle. Junior
Brittany McGee closed out the game with one strike out
to her credit.
