Softball Welcomes Mid-Continent On Tuesday

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama softball team returns to the diamond on Tuesday, Feb. 19, hosting Mid-Continent University at the UWA Softball Complex.  First pitch of the twinbill is set for 2 p.m.

The Tigers enter the midweek match up with a 4-6 record after posting two wins last weekend at the West Georgia Invitational in Carrollton, Ga.  UWA topped Georgia Southwestern to close out Friday’s activity and turned in a 5-4 win over Armstrong Atlantic State on Saturday.

Offensively, the Red and White are led by freshman centerfielder Angela Smith.  Smith, from Wetumpka, Ala., has a team-best 13 hits on the season and sports a .464 batting clip.  Freshman second baseman Kelli Hartley has been a mainstay in the Tiger lineup since opening day.  She posted a .333 batting average this past weekend and was credited with two doubles in UWA’s 5-4 win over AASU and scored the game-winning run in the affair.

MCU, who is touring the state of Alabama, claimed two wins over Stillman College on Saturday and will face Spring Hill on Monday before visiting Livingston.

Following the midweek affair, UWA will return to the tournament trail on the weekend, taking part in the UAH Charger Chillout.
