The Tigers moved to 18-2 on
the season and remained unblemished at home with
a 7-0 mark. UWA continues its homestand with a
non-conference tune up with Miles College on
Thursday, March 12, prior to opening Gulf South
Conference play against West Georgia on Friday,
March 13.
In the opener, UWA took a
2-0 lead after three innings, but the Eagles
evened the contest with a pair of runs in the
fourth. The Red and White bats came alive in
the fifth with four hits, two leaving the yard.
After Jessica Powell led off the frame with a
hit by pitch and a Kelli Hartley walk, Valisha
Fincher smashed a three-run home run down the
right field line to give UWA a 5-2 advantage.
Emily White connected on her first of two round
trippers in the contest, drilling one over the
right field fence. UWA finished up the scoring
in the frame after Ashley Edgar doubled to
right, scoring Lauren Mills, who reached via a
base hit. With White’s pair of home runs, the

the past nine games. Her second home run
finished the game in the sixth, scoring Courtney
Gordon. Hartley joined the home run parade with
a lead off homer to left field.
In the circle, UWA got a
complete game performance from senior Aubree
Hudson. Hudson fanned five in her six innings
of work and scattered three hits. Hudson picked
up her fifth win of the season.
In the night cap, the
Tigers led 3-1 after one inning, but saw its
lead slip away after LU posted a pair of runs in
the third and fourth frames. The Eagles knotted
the contest at 3-3 after Autumn King drove in
the tying runs with a home run in the third. LU
added a pair of runs after Desiree Zullick
slapped a double down the left field line,
plating Dentaisha Meadows and Stephanie Johnson.
Trailing 5-3 entering the
fifth, UWA pinch hitter Lauren Mills led off the
frame with a solo shot to centerfield to bring
the Tigers within a run. After a single by
Powell, Fincher belted her second home run of
the day with an opposite field two-run dinger,
giving the Tigers a 6-5 lead. UWA added three
runs in the sixth to seal the deal. Hartley
doubled to right, scoring Jessica Cervantes.

a sacrifice fly. On the day, Fincher posted a
team-best six RBIs on a pair of hits. Gordon
led UWA at the plate with five hits in eight
plate appearances.

sixth save of the season with her two innings of
shutdown work.
