LIVINGSTON, Ala. —
The University of West Alabama softball team continues
its 14-game road trip on Wednesday, April 16, traveling
to Marion, Ala. to face Judson College in a twinbill at
3 p.m. UWA swept the Eagles on April 2 at the UWA
Softball Complex.
The Tigers, who
moved to 24-24 on the season on Sunday with a pair of
wins to close out the 2008 Gulf South Conference
Crossover in Decatur, Ala. The Tigers topped GSC-West
leading Arkansas Tech 3-2 followed by an 8-3 decision
over Ouachita Baptist. UWA also ousted Southern
Arkansas 3-1 on the opening day.
Junior shortstop
Courtney Gordon continues to lead the club at the plate
with a .403 batting average and the team leader in base
hits. Freshman centerfielder Angela Smith has bumped
her batting clip up to .386. At the Crossover, Smith
led the Tigers with a .474 batting mark and posted a
team-best nine hits on the weekend. The Wetumpka, Ala.-
product had three doubles and drove in a pair of runs in
the six games played at the event. Freshman Kelli
Hartley connected on her 12th and 13th
home run of the season on Sunday. The Northport,
Ala.-native ranks third in the conference in home runs.
Following the non-conference tilt on Wednesday, UWA will
trek to Valdosta State on Saturday, April 19 and West
Florida on April 20. First pitch against the Blazers is
set for 11 a.m. CST. |
