SOUTHAVEN, Miss. – The 2009 Gulf
South Conference Softball Tournament was
shortened to a single elimination format due to
the continuous showers in the Southaven, Miss.
area.
The
winner’s bracket contest between Valdosta State
and Arkansas Tech was contested on Sunday. The
Lady Blazers erased a 3-1 deficit in the bottom
of the sixth to top the upset-minded Golden
Suns, 5-3. VSU earned the conference’s
automatic berth into the NCAA South Region.
The Tigers,
who dropped their lone contest of the GSC
Tournament to ATU on Friday, were scheduled to
face Delta State in a loser’s bracket contest.
UWA entered
the week ranked No. 8 in the latest NCAA South
Region rankings. The NCAA Committee will
announce the field on Sunday evening.
