BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
– After a stellar pitching performance last
week, West Alabama junior pitcher Brittany McGee was
selected as the Gulf South Conference Pitcher of the
Week, announced by the conference office in Birmingham,
Ala.
The Demopolis,
Ala.-native etched her name in the UWA softball record
book on Wednesday, April 16, tossing the program’s first
perfect game in the 22-year history of the fast pitch
program. McGee’s outing was aided by the Tiger line up
as they posted 14 runs in a five inning shortened game.
She followed that feat with a blanking of No. 12
Valdosta State, 9-0, on Saturday, scattering five hits
and did not allow a walk along with one strike out
against the Lady Blazers. It marked the first time VSU
was shut out in conference play this season and the
second time that they have been run-ruled this season.
McGee picked up her third win of the week against West
Florida. She pitched a complete game, allowing just two
earned runs in the 10-3 win over the Argos. In the
three starts, McGee had 33 ground ball outs and 12 fly
ball outs. Opposing batters batted just .203 against
her with an earned run average of 0.82 for the week.
McGee’s award marks the second time a
UWA softball student-athlete has been honored with a
weekly conference award. Freshman outfielder Valisha
Fincher was tabbed as the GSC Player of the Week for the
week of March 4. |
