DECATUR,
Ala. – The University of West Alabama
softball team split on the final day of the Gulf
South Conference Crossover, as UWA topped
Southern Arkansas, 13-6 and dropped a 10-2
decision to Arkansas at Monticello to close out
the day at Wilson Morgan Park.
The Tigers
finished the crossover with six wins and will
enter Tuesday’s non-conference match up against
Stillman College with a 35-8 overall mark, 9-6
in GSC play. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at
the UWA Softball Complex. Live stats will be

UWA’s bats
heated up quickly on a chilly day at the GSC
Crossover, as it plated four early runs in the
first inning en route to a 13 run, 16 hit
performance against the Lady Muleriders. The
Tigers posted runs in all but one inning of the
contest. Jessica Powell started the scoring in
the first with a two-run homer to left field.
UWA plated an additional pair of runs in the
second with an RBI from Ashley Edgar and Valisha
Fincher. The Tigers extended the lead with a
four-run, five-hit third inning. Laura
Bagwell and Jennifer Lillard each collected a
team-high three hits, including solo home runs
from each. Bagwell lifted a homer to left
field, while Lillard connected on her first
round tripper of the season to lead off the
fifth. UWA’s line up had six batters post
multi-hits in the affair.
Aubree
Hudson registered the win, tossing four complete
innings. Hudson fanned a pair and walked two in
the outing. SAU touched her for five runs off
seven hits. Brittany McGee picked up her second
save of the season with three innings of work.
In the
final contest against UAM, the Cotton Blossoms
scored six of their ten runs off the long ball.
After the Tigers plated a run in the top of the
second on a Bagwell RBI double, UAM matched the
Tigers in its half of the second on Becca
Sustaire solo homer to start the scoring for UAM.
The Red and White took a brief 2-1 lead after
Edgar powered an opposite field solo shot to
right field to start the third. UAM starter
Kayla Jackson helped her cause in the third with
a three-run blast in the third to re-gain the
lead, 4-2. Jackson scattered three UWA hits and
carded five strikeouts in a complete game
effort. The Cotton Blossoms exploded for six
runs in the fourth, sparked by Lindsey Randall’s
two-run blast.
As a team, the Tigers batted
.320 at the plate, paced by Edgar’s .458 clip.
The senior catcher finished the four-day event
with 11 hits in 24 plate at bats along with four
RBIs. The Roseville, Calif.-native is currently
riding a 12-game hitting streak. UWA turned in
ten home runs as a team, including a pair by
Hartley and Fincher. In the circle, Hudson was
credited with four wins in 21 2/3 innings
pitched. Jessica Cervantes tallied four saves
to surpass the NCAA Division II mark for saves
in a season. Cervantes broke the record with
her 12th save of the season in UWA’s
5-4 win over Ouachita Baptist on Sunday.
