BIRMINGHAM, Ala.
– West Alabama freshman outfielder Valisha
Fincher has been selected as this week’s Gulf South
Conference Softball Player of the Week, announced by the
league on Tuesday.
Fincher sported an
astounding .727 batting average in this past weekend’s
Tiger Invitational at the UWA Softball Complex. The
Tarrant, Ala.-native turned in eight hits in 11 at bats
on the weekend, six of which were extra base hits. She
belted three home runs and three doubles in the Tiger’s
four-game sweep over the weekend. Fincher drove in
eight runs in the two-day tournament, including
back-to-back three RBI performances against Crichton.
She also swiped four bases for the week and carded a
slugging percentage of 1.818 and an on-base mark of
.769.
Fincher helped pace
the UWA offense as the squad pounded out 55 hits over
the weekend and posted double-figure runs in all four
affairs. The Red and White scored 49 runs on the
weekend, averaging 12.25 runs per contest. The run
total is the most runs scored over a four-game span
since the 1992 season.
UWA returns to the softball diamond
on this weekend, taking part in the Clark Atlanta
Invitational in Atlanta, Ga. The Tigers will face
Rollins, Barry and Nova Southeastern on the
invitational’s opening day.
