BIRMINGHAM,
Ala. – West Alabama senior catcher Ashley Edgar
has been selected as the Gulf South Conference East
Division Player of the Week, announced by the
conference office on Tuesday. Edgar becomes the
initial GSC East Player of the Week for the 2009
season.
Edgar, who
helped guide the Tigers to 3-0 start last weekend,
hit for a .625 clip on the weekend and had an on
base percentage of .700. She
opened the season 2-for-3
in the opening game against Spring Hill. The
Roseville, Calif.-native scored three runs and was
on base three times in the 6-5 win. Defensively,
Edgar stifled two SHC opportunities with a pair of
pick offs in the contest. She drove in a pair of
runs against Judson College. For the weekend, Edgar
finished the weekend 5-for-8 and was credited with a
hit in all three games during the UWA Invitational.
Edgar becomes the fourth
current UWA player to earn conference accolades in
the past two seasons. Last season, Valisha Fincher
earned GSC weekly honors along with pitchers Emily
White and Brittany McGee.
