LIVINGSTON, Ala.
– After posting back-to-back Gulf South Conference
double header splits against No. 12 Valdosta State and
West Florida over the weekend, the West Alabama softball
team will close out the 14-game road swing on Tuesday at
Birmingham Southern. First pitch is set for 5 p.m. on
the BSC campus.
UWA closed out the
GSC weekend with a 10-3 win over West Florida on Sunday
after dropping a 4-3 decision in the first game. The
Red and White claimed the second game of the double
header with No. 12 Valdosta State on Saturday. Junior
pitcher Brittany McGee tossed her second-straight shut
out of the week, blanking VSU 9-0. The shut out of VSU
was the first time in conference play that the Lady
Blazers were held scoreless.
The Tigers, 28-26
overall on the season, enter the final non-conference
match up with a 22-11 mark against out of conference
opposition this season. UWA sports a .336 batting clip
against non-conference foes while the Tiger pitching
staff has limited opponent batters to an average of .236
at the plate. The Panthers of BSC moved to 28-22 after
a three-game sweep of Charleston Southern over the
weekend. Tuesday’s pair of games will be the first time
UWA and BSC have met on the softball diamond.

Following the
mid-week affair, UWA returns home to close out the 2008
season against North Alabama on Saturday, April 26 and
Alabama in Huntsville on Sunday, April 27. The UNA
contest is set for 5 p.m. at the UWA Softball Complex. |
