RIDGELAND, Miss. —
The University of West Alabama
softball team had six hits in the
first game and three in the second,
but it wasn’t enough as Ouachita
Baptist swept the Tigers, 5-1 and
5-1 during the final day of the West
Alabama Invitational.
In the opener, the Tigers trailed
2-0 going into the third. With one
down in the third, senior Shannon
Goggins singled and senior Heather
Shugart followed with a base hit.
Both runners advanced on a passed
ball as Goggins scored the Tigers’
only run on a single by junior
Samantha White.
Aubree Hudson (0-2) took the loss
for West Alabama, pitching six
innings, giving up five runs (four
earned) on nine hits. She also
walked seven and struck out seven.
Shugart and freshman Jennifer
Lillard each went 2-for-4 to lead
West Alabama (0-4). Goggins was
1-for-2 with a run scored and
Samantha White was 1-for-3.
In the second game, sophomore Emily
White (0-2) started on the mound,

Ouachita Baptist led 5-0 going into
the bottom of the fourth, where the
Tigers cut the lead to 5-1.

error by Ouachita Baptist second
baseman Jeni Maxton. Shugart
followed with a single to advance to
third and Samantha White, who went
2-for-3, drove Goggins in with a
base hit. However, Emily White lined
out to second to end the scoring
threat.

hits, the Tigers, who committed four
errors, also had hits by freshman
