Game 1 Box/Game 2 Box

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama dropped a pair to the University of North Alabama on Sunday afternoon at the UWA Softball Complex, falling 12-8 and 10-1.

Game one saw a total of 29 hits between the two teams in which a combined 20 runs were scored.

UNA (19-17, 4-0 GSC) posted five runs in the second and added another four in the third before UWA got on the scoreboard.

Sheila Jordan started the Tigers off, hitting a one out shot to the shortstop and moved up to second on a Shannon Goggins single up the middle. Heather Shugart followed up with a homerun to left field to cut the Lion lead to six.

The Tigers plated two more in the fourth to pull the contest to within four. Jennifer started the rally with a one out, double to left field and advanced to third on a throw. Laura Bagwell followed with a single to right field to place runners on the corners with one out. Jordan would ground out to second base, but moved Bagwell up to second base. A Shannon Goggins single to left field plated both UWA runs as Goggins advanced to third on a throw. Shugart again placed runners on the corners for the Tigers, but Emily White would strike out swinging to end the inning.

UNA answered the Tiger, two-run inning with three of its own to push the lead back out to 12-5 through 4 ½ innings of action.

UWA again plated a run in the bottom of the fifth to cut into the UNA deficit.

With two down, Krista Merrifield singled through the left side and scored as Jennifer Lillard doubled to right field.

The Tigers added two runs in the sixth as Jordan led off with a double to right field. Shugart would then hit a one out, two-run homer over center field to narrow the margin, closing out the UWA runs.

Emily White (8-6) received the loss with 2 1/3 innings of work in the circle, giving up seven runs on eight hits. Sabrina Roberts (8-2) picked up the win with six innings of action, allowing eight runs on 13 hits.

Game two saw UNA again take an early advantage in the contest, plating two runs in its first and bat and one more in the second inning.

UWA cut the lead down to two with its first run in the fourth inning. Samantha White reached base on a two-out walk and scored one batter later as Lillard doubled down the left field line.

UNA added two more in the fifth to increase its lead to 5-1, before exploding for five runs in the sixth to close out the scoring effort for the Lions

Aubree Hudson (7-7) took the loss with 5 1/3 innings of work, allowing 10 runs on nine hits. Stephanie Glienke (5-4) received the win, throwing in all six innings and allowing five hits and recording five strike outs.
