LIVINGSTON, Ala. -- The University of West Alabama recovered from its three-game losing streak to notch two victories over Miles College (11-0, 10-2) on Thursday afternoon at the UWA Softball Complex.

The Tigers (15-11) combined for 25 hits, 21 RBI and nine extra base hits, including five homeruns to outscore Miles 21-2 in the two contests.

In the first game, Laura Bagwell led off the game with a blast over left field to give UWA an early 1-0 advantage. Following a Sheila Jordan fly out, Shannon Goggins would draw and walk and score on a Heather Shugart homerun over left center field. Corey Curlee, who reached base on a walk and moved to second on a single up the middle by Emily White, scored on a Krista Merrifield single to left center for the Tigers final run of the inning.

After a scoreless inning and a half, UWA pounced again with 7 runs in the bottom of the third to cap off its scoring for the game.

With one out, Samantha White, who reached on a walk, scored on a Merrifield double to right center. Following a Jennifer Lillard single, Bagwell would hit a shot down the left side to score Merrifield and Lillard and give UWA 6-0 lead.

Bagwell, who stole second, advanced to third on a Jordan single through the left side. A Goggins walk loaded the bases for the Tigers and a Shugart double to left field would drive in all three runs.  A single by Curlee through the left side would score Shugart to wrap up the UWA scoring.

Emily White received the win on the mound for UWA, improving to 7-3 on the season. White threw three innings, allowing two hits and fanning out two Golden Bear batters.

In game two, Miles plated the first run on the scoreboard. Karmarcha Martin, who led off with a walk and later stole second, advanced to third on a Heather Hamilton ground out to Jordan and scored on a Jessica Insel ground out to Goggins.

UWA answered in the bottom of the first as Bagwell, who led off the inning with a single to left field and stole second, scored on a Goggins single to even the game at 1 each.

The Tigers added on more in the second inning, pasting four runs to take a 5-1 lead.

Emily White led the inning off with a dinger and was followed by an Alisha Berry single. Berry moved to the third on a single by Lillard and scored on a Bagwell ground out to third base. A Jordan homerun, that scored Lillard, capped off the four run inning for UWA.

The Golden Bears added its final run in the top of the third on an Insel fly out to score Martin.

Shugart led the bottom of the third inning off with a homerun, her 15th of the season to give UWA a 6-2 lead. With one out, White doubled and advanced to third on a Berry single. Later a Merrifield single would plate White and Berry for the three runs in the inning.
