MARION, Ala.
– The University of West Alabama
softball team forced a split with
Judson College, as the Tigers
(20-17) took the second game of the
doubleheader 11-6 on Thursday
afternoon.
Five UWA
players recorded multiple hits in
the second game, including a two-run
homerun by Emily White in the third
inning. White finished the game
going 2-for-4 at the plate with 2
runs scored and 3 RBI.
Alisha Berry
and Krista Merrifield led the
Tigers, each going 3-for-4 on the
night. Merrifield recorded 5 RBI and
2 runs scored as Berry scored 3
runs.
Heather Shugart
and Jennifer Lillard both went
2-for-3 as Lillard recorded 2 RBI
and Shugart had a scored run. Laura
Bagwell also posted a hit in the
contest.
Aubree Hudson
(8-7) took the victory in the circle
with three innings of action,
allowing one run on two hits with a
walk and a strikeout.
Tiger starter
Amanda Bintz pitched three innings,
allowing five runs on six hits with
a walk and four strikeouts as
Brittany McGee finished the contest
with an inning in the circle for
UWA.
Despite a
career-high 10 strikeout effort by
Emily White (8-7), UWA fell in game
one, 3-1, as the Tigers amassed just
five hits, all singles, in the
contest. White pitched six innings,
allowing three runs on seven hits
and one walk.
The lone Tiger
run came in the third inning as
Shugart singled up the middle to
score Sheila Jordan and give UWA a
1-0 advantage. UWA held the single
run lead until Judson got on the
scoreboard with three runs in the
fifth inning to earn the victory in
the first game of the doubleheader.
West Alabama
returns to action on Saturday, March
24, as the Tigers host West Florida
in a Gulf South Conference
doubleheader. First pitch is
scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at UWA
