LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of
West Alabama hosted the 13th
Annual UWA Rodeo this weekend at the Don
C. Hines Rodeo Complex on the Livingston
campus. The wrangler men finished sixth,
while the wrangler women finished
eighth.
The
rodeo hosted 16 teams from the Ozark
Region with approximately 250
participants.
“I
would like to thank the City of
Livingston, the University, and our
sponsors for their continued support of
our rodeo,” said Head Coach Chad Phipps.
“We had good crowds all three nights and
good support from our home fans.”
Lauren
Hedrick picked up 20 points in the
breakaway roping for the UWA women with
10 points in the second round and 10
points in the average. Hedrick finished
in ninth. Deanna Mixon garnered 50
points in the barrel racing with 30 in
the second round and 20 in the average.
Mixon finished in fifth in the barrel
racing.
Justin
Caylor earned 110 points in saddle bronc
riding with Cole Bilbro grabbing 80
points. Caylor picked up 40 points in
the first round and the average and 30
points in the second round, while Bilbro
received 50 points in the second round
and 30 in the average. Caylor placed
third in the event with Bilbro in
fourth.
“We
didn’t have our best rodeo, but we’ve
still got seven rodeos to improve upon,”
Phipps continued. “We are not out of
competing for the National Finals, but
we need to improve.”
West
Alabama returns to action this weekend,
as the wranglers take part in the Troy
Rodeo. The event begins on Thursday,
Oct. 16 and concludes on Saturday, Oct.
18.
