MARTIN,
Tenn. – The University of West Alabama
wranglers competed in the Tennessee-Martin
Rodeo this weekend, as the Tiger men won and
the UWA women placed second.
“I am very
proud of the men and women this week. Both
teams stepped up and competed well the last
three weekends,” Head Rodeo Coach Jayson
Schoenfeld. “As we get ready to head into
the last rodeo, we have nine individuals
with a chance to make the Collegiate
National Finals Rodeo.”
The UWA
men totaled 715 points to finish 115 points
ahead of host UTM in second place. Missouri
Valley College finished third with 400
points, as Troy placed fourth with 350
points.
Brandon
Reynolds and Anthony Norwood each earned
first place finishes on the weekend.
Reynolds won the bull riding with Norwood
claiming the steer wrestling just ahead of
Tyler Pearson in second, as Josh Napp placed
fifth. Todd Bledsoe finished second in the
bareback riding, as Blake Cavataio nabbed
fifth in the calf roping.
The Tiger
women totaled 245 points, as Troy won the
women’s side with 550 points. Host UTM
placed third with 225 points as
Arkansas-Monticello finished fourth with 185
points.
Lauren
Hedrick and Kelly Lacey each recorded third
place finishes. Hedrick, who also placed
fifth goat tying, finished ahead of teammate
Sydney Bailey in the breakaway roping with
Bailey placing fourth. Casey Chapman
finished seventh in the barrel racing.
“We have
five individuals fighting for year end
titles in their events heading into the
rodeo this weekend at Northwest,” Schoenfeld
said.
The UWA
Wranglers will compete in the Northwest
Mississippi Community College Rodeo on April
19-21 in Senatobia, Miss.
