TROY,
Ala. –
The University of West Alabama Wranglers
competed in the Troy rodeo over the weekend
with several wranglers having strong
individual performances led by Carissa
Purvis placing third in the long round of
the break away roping.
Chelsea Watson posted a strong weekend, as
she finished fourth in the short round and
placed sixth in the average in barrel racing
with Jenna Robison finishing one spot out of
the short round.
“Chelsea’s horse has been injured until this
weekend and she is glad to have him going
again,” head coach Chad Phipps said. “If
everything is good with her horse, I look
for her to place in the rest of the rodeos
this season.
The girls did well this weekend; we just
aren’t catching the breaks we need. When you
have a team that wants to win as bad as they
do, only good things will happen.”
On the men’s side, Alex Caudle finished
ninth in the long round in the calf roping.
Tyler Earwood and Daniel Poole came up short
in the bull riding, but Earwood posted a
qualified ride in the in the short round.
“The guy’s team showed huge improvements and
came out swinging this weekend. Both Tyler
and Daniel are making huge improvements and
will make a great showing at the UWA rodeo,”
said Phipps.
West Alabama
returns to action on Thursday, November 8th,
when the Wranglers host the UWA Rodeo. The
event will conclude on Saturday, November 10th.
