The University of West
Alabama wranglers
competed in the Trojan
Stampede on the campus
of Troy University this
past weekend. The UWA
men finished in seventh
with 220 points as the
UWA women also finished
in seventh with 45
points.
“It
wasn’t our best rodeo,”
UWA Head Coach Chad
Phipps said. “We had
some tough luck, but let
some things get to us
and hurt our chances. We
need to get back on
track this weekend at
our home rodeo.”
Daniel Poole led the way
for UWA finishing second
in bull riding with 100
total points. The
Meridian, Miss.-native,
who finished second in
the first round and in
the average, was just 20
points behind Brian
Dowdy of Northwest
Mississippi Community
College.
Tray Chambliss finished
fourth in the bareback
riding with 60 total
points while Justin
Caylor totaled 80 points
to finish fourth in
saddle bronc. Alex
Caudle also claimed a
fourth place finish with
80 points in steer
wrestling while Austin
Davis finished with 30
points in the event.
Kaitlin St. Clair
grabbed 45 total points,
for the UWA women, in
barrel racing.
West Alabama returns to
competition this weekend
as UWA hosts the Rodeo
Showdown Thursday, Oct.
22 through Saturday,
Oct. 24 at the Don C.
Hines Rodeo Complex in
Livingston, Ala. Events
start at 7:30 p.m. each
night. Tickets are
$10.00 for adults and
$5.00 for children six
years of age and under.
