SENATOBIA, Miss. – The University of
West Alabama wranglers completed its final
rodeo before the Collegiate National Finals
Rodeo in Casper, Wyo. in June, as the
wranglers participated in the Northwest
Mississippi Community College rodeo this
past weekend.
The UWA
men finished second with 560 points, as the
Wrangler women placed sixth in the rodeo
with 40 points. Tyler Pearson won the steer
wrestling, as teammate Josh Napp finished
seventh. Blake Cavataio clinched a second
place finish in the calf roping, as Todd
Bledsoe and Brandon Reynolds both garnered
third place finishes in bareback riding and
bull riding respectively. Kelly Lacey
finished fifth in the breakaway roping
event.
Tennessee-Martin won both the men’s and
women’s side. The UTM men posted 700 points
in the win, as the Skyhawk women recorded
385.
“I am
proud of our kids for fighting hard for 10
rodeos,” UWA head coach Jayson Schoenfeld
said. “I look forward to taking our team to
Casper for the CNFR in June.”
Eight UWA
wranglers will be participating in the CNFR
later this year. Tyler Pearson (steer
wrestling), Josh Napp (steer wrestling, team
roping), Brandon Reynolds (bull riding),
Todd Bledsoe (bareback riding), Natasha
Parker (breakaway roping), Lauren Hedrick
(breakaway roping, goat tying), Kelly Lacey
(barrel racing) and Casey Chapman (barrel
racing).
