SENATOBIA, Miss. – The
University of West Alabama wranglers
competed in the Northwest
Mississippi Community College rodeo
over the weekend with the UWA men
finishing in third, totaling 435
points. The UWA women finished sixth
with 90 points.
Cole Bilbro finished second in the
saddle bronc riding with 140 total
points and second in the steer
wrestling with 120 points. Bilbro
was third after the first round in
the saddle bronc and second in the
second round. In the steer
wrestling, he finished fourth in the
first round and third in the second
round. Daniel Poole finished second
in the bull riding with 150 points.
Alex Caudle finished eighth in the
calf roping with 25 points. Cristi
Heisman claimed fourth in the goat
tying with 90 total points.
“Cole (Bilbro) stepped up and had a
huge weekend; the best of his
college career thus far,” said UWA
Head Coach Chad Phipps. “He did what
I knew he was capable of doing. If
he keeps competing the way he did
this weekend, he can reach his full
potential and be the guy to beat
every weekend.”
“Daniel (Poole) has improved and
become a very good bull rider. He is
close to becoming a great one,”
Phipps stated. “We didn’t get the
best draw of livestock on the
women’s side, but you have to go
with what you drew. It didn’t work
out for us this weekend, but these
women are competitors and I know
they will compete hard in two weeks
at UTM.”
West Alabama will take part in the
University of Tennessee at Martin
rodeo on April 16-18.
