Head Coach Rick Reedy
Rick
Reedy enters his 22nd season as UWA's head basketball coach with a
wealth of experience gleaned through two decades in high school and
college coaching. His 21 campaigns at the West Alabama helm have
brought inspired play and quality student-athletes to the Livingston
campus, with renewed promise for an exciting future as the program
enters a new millennium.
In
2004-2005, Reedy led the Tigers to an overall mark of 14-13,
following a 5-22 mark a season earlier, which was good enough for
the biggest turnaround season in school history.
Reedy, 54, came to UWA as a newly hired assistant in 1980 after a
three-season tenure as an assistant and head coach at Crystal River
(Fla.) High School. He took the reigns at UWA in 1984 and fashioned
the club into a perennial Gulf South Conference contender, winning
252 games over the next 21 seasons.
In
1987-88, Reedy guided the perpetually rebuilding Tigers to a stellar
18-9 mark and the school's first basketball playoff berth in years.
The following season, he led UWA to a similarly impressive 17-10
finish, earning GSC Coach of the Year plaudits and yet another
post-season appearance.
As
the 90's approached, Reedy's popularity swelled and West Alabama
basketball became a happening in Livingston. Fans and students
routinely flocked to Pruitt Hall's "Kill Section" to watch the
Tigers play a fervent, hustling brand of basketball and rack up 35
wins in a two-season span from 1996-98.
Today, Reedy - the Dean of Coaches at UWA - routinely serves on a
wide variety of UWA committees and organizations, and is firmly
committed to the future of the University and its athletic
department.
He
is married to the former Patsy Lindsey of Butler, Ala. |
