UWA gets split with Itawamba

LIVINGSTON, AL— The University of West Alabama tennis teams faced off in an exhibition match Saturday afternoon with the Tiger men defeating Itawamba Community College 8-1, but the women lost 5-2.

After finishing this season, Itawamba’s No. 2 singles player Brandon Harris plans to attend West Alabama in the fall to play tennis and get a degree in education.

 Men’s Singles:

 Sascha Dresselhaus (UWA)  lost to Matt Johnston 6-2, 5-7, (8-10) third set tiebreaker

Carlin Anderson (UWA) def. Brandon Harris 6-2, 7-6

Denton Meintjes (UWA) def. Mickey Renfrow 6-0, 6-2

Michael Garcia (UWA) def. Brian Palmer 6-2, 6-4

Carlin Tighe (UWA) def. Matt Whiteside 6-2, 7-6

Alex Rondon (UWA) def. Derek Klipstein 6-0, 6-2

 

Men’s Doubles:

Sascha Dresselhaus & Denton Meintjes (UWA) def. Johnston/Harris 8-5

Mylan Anderson & Carlin Tighe (UWA) def. Renfroe/Palmer 8-5

Erick Duran & Michael Garcia  (UWA) def. Whitside/Klipstein 8-3

 

Women’s Singles:

 Adanys Clerch (UWA) lost to Krystle Ozols 1-6, 1-6

Amy Cole (UWA) lost to Marija Djuran 1-6, 0-6

Rama Siby (UWA) lost to Lindsey Collins1-6, 1-6

Rachel Hardaway (UWA) def. Jamie Malone 6-4, 6-2

Melanie Mock (UWA) won by default  

 

Women’s Doubles:

Amy Cole & Adanys Clerch (UWA) lost to Djuran/Collins 1-8

Rachel Hardaway & Rama Siby (UWA) lost to Ozols/Malone 3-8

Both men’s and women’s Tigers teams conclude the season 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 18 in Tuscaloosa against Stillman College.
