She spent her collegiate playing days at Lynn (Fla.) University, where she earned First Team All-Sunshine State All-Conference honors and was a member of the Lynn University Honors Society. She graduated from Lynn in 2004 with a Bachelors in Hospitality Administration with and emphasis in Sports Management. Before making her way to Lynn, she played at Cowley County Community college, where she earned First Team All-Conference and All-Region accolades as a freshman and sophomore. She was also selected Team MVP, nominated for All-American honors and helped lead the team to a National Tournament appearance for the first time in school history. She finished in 2002 with an Associates of Science Degree. The Arkansas City, Kan., native attended Arkansas City High School and was a four-time, First Team All-Conference and All-Region performer in softball.
Melanie Carter enters her second season on the UWA coaching staff. She comes to Livingston from the University of Alabama in Huntsville, where she was a four-year starter for the Chargers and a four-time NFCA All-American and four-time First Team All-South Region selection. Carter appeared in 261 games, all starts, and practically rewrote the entire Charger record book, setting nine career records, including at-bats (795), runs (231), doubles (65), home runs (44), total bases (519) and RBI (233). She also has the second highest batting average (.382) in school history and the second most hits in school history (304). She was also a four-time First Team All-GSC selection and was a member of three GSC Championship teams under Head Coach Les Stuedeman. She was selected GSC East Division Freshman of the Year (2000) and was picked for the GSC All-Tournament Team four times. Carter is a native of Fayetteville, Tenn., where she attended Lincoln County High School and was an All-State selection in softball. She graduated from UAH in December of 2003 with a degree in Biology with an emphasis in Exercise Physiology.
