West Alabama drops pair to West Georgia

LIVINGSTON, AL – The West Alabama softball team got solid hitting in the second game, but couldn’t prevent a doubleheader Gulf South Conference sweep from West Georgia as the Lady Braves took both games, 10-0 and 12-4.

In the opener, Debbie Shisler started on the mound for the Tigers (13-32 overall, 4-24 GSC) and worked six innings, giving up 10 runs on 15 hits. West Alabama had just two hits, both from Shisler.

Kacie Crider pitched for the Lady Braves as she worked six innings and had six strikeouts. Offensively, West Georgia got multiple hits by Mary Carlisle, Kim Weaver, Adrienne Clay, Jessie Wise and Whitney Monk.

In the second game, Auburee Hudson started on the mound for the Tigers, pitching four innings, giving up eight runs on 12 hits. Brittany McGee worked an inning in relief.

West Alabama scored two runs in the third and fourth innings off RBIs by Sydney Sneed and Rochelle Thomas. Shisler, Corey Corlee, Heather Shugart, Emily While and Alisha Berry each had hits.

The Lady Braves’ Kate Thompson pitched five innings, giving up four runs on eight hits. West Georgia (36-19, 18-6) got multiple hits by Celia Petty, Mary Carlisle and Jamie Van Haltern. Petty, Carlisle and Van Haltern each had home runs.

West Alabama travels Friday, April 21, 2006 to Belhaven for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 p.m.
