Tigers softball falls to Lincoln Memorial

HARROGATE, TN — The West Alabama softball struggled again Saturday, dropping a pair of Gulf South Conference games to Lincoln Memorial at Neely Field, 10-2 and 4-0.

In the opener, the Tigers (14-37 overall, 4-6 GSC) used three pitchers as starter Aubree Hudson worked three innings, giving up 10 runs on six hits with five walks. Emily White and Corey Curlee pitched in relief, as the game was called after the fifth because of the NCAA eight-run rule.

Offensively, West Alabama had seven hits, led by Rochelle Thomas, Curlee and Shannon Goggins with two each. Joanna Hyde added a hit as Thomas and Alisha Berry drove in the two RBIs.

For the Lady Railsplitters, Brittney Walker got the win, pitching four innings, giving up a run on four hits. Jessica Stewart worked an inning, giving up a run on three hits.

Lincoln Memorial had eight hits, led by Chelsie McNew with two. Cassey Schutte, Kristin Hutchinson, Alisa Burk, Danielle Sowders and Walker each had one hit.

In the second contest, the Tigers had just four hits as Thomas, Goggins, White and Robin Halbrooks accounted for the offensive output. Debbie Shisler pitched six innings in taking the loss. The freshman gave up four runs on eight hits.

Kelly Click took the win for the Lady Railsplitters (35-27, 11-19) as she worked seven innings. Amanda Wampler went 2-for-3 to pace the offense.

The Tigers conclude their season with a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. Sunday at Lincoln Memorial.
